Tomar & Festa dos tabuleiros

On Sunday I was in Tomar. Tomar or the Convento do Cristo, respectively, is famous for being the former headquarter of the Knights Templar. Last week there was also the "Festa dos tabuleiros". A week-long festivity which is held only every 4 years. Tomar has about 20000 inhabitants, but last Sunday approximately half a million visiors streamed into the town. Sunday's highlight is the procession of hundreds of women in traditional headdresses. The foundation of the headdress, which weighs about 15 kilos, is a round basket covered with a linen cloth.

Sintra

I was in Sintra this weekend. Sintra is a town with a Unesco world heritage site not far away from Lisbon. It is located within the Sintra mountains and was used as a summer residence by former Portuguese kings. There are palaces, castle (ruins) and a lot of beautiful view points.
